At first glance, I thought this was one of the ballots used during the election seen in Season One’s ‘Colonial Day’. But that was a vice presidential election.
So this must be a Season Two prop… which makes this a bit of a spoiler (though ‘Charlie Brown’ has taken care to blur the name of the 2nd candidate that appears on the ballot).
Just noticed Apple is now carrying an audiobook version of the new Jeffrey Carver novelization of the BSG miniseries.
Here’s the description from Amazon:
For forty years, the Twelve Colonies of Man experienced peace, united since the war against the man-made Cylons. The Cylons, mechanical beings created to perform the manual labor civilization required, were gone forever…or so humanity thought.
But in those years, the Cylons developed new Cylons that looked and acted like humans–with one goal in mind: to destroy all humanity! When they suddenly attacked the Twelve Worlds, humanity’s extinction seemed inevitable.
Only a single warship survived the massive attack: Battlestar Galactica, the oldest ship in the fleet, ready to be decommissioned and turned into a museum. Commander William Adama, himself set to retire, had but one course: to marshal the meager forces available, a ragtag crew of misfits and green recruits, to prevent their enemy from wiping out the last vestiges of the human race. But the Cylons, stronger, smarter, and driven to destroy their creators, may just be too powerful for them and all of humanity to survive.
Sounds familiar, huh?
With just a few days left to go before Christmas, Universal has released the first half of Season 2 on DVD.
The disc contains the following features:
• 3 discs
• 10 episodes
• 440 minutes
• Deleted scenes
• Episode commentaries (from the podcasts)
• Sneak peek at the 2nd half of Season 2
• Dolby Digital 5.1 sound
• Widescreen anamorphic presentation
Notably, though, the DVD does not contain the extended, 90-minute version of the “Pegasus” episode where Galactica meets up with another Battlestar which survived the Cylon attack. Current plans call for this episode to be included in the DVD for the 2nd half of DVD… which will probably appear sometime this summer.
Lastly, I love the fact that Amazon already has 67 reviews for this DVD. That’s a passionate fanbase for you!
UPDATE: During today’s marathon, the SciFi channel is promoting the new DVD with commercials that mention a special DVD-only website. Not much new there, but there’s a high quality version of the DVD trailer that appeared on the web last week.
According to a report from TV Shows on DVD, the Season 2 DVD will NOT contain the extended cut of the “Pegasus” episode.
Fans of Battlestar Galactica were excited when Ron Moore talked about an extended episode of “Pegasus,” the half-season finale, during his PodCast for the show. Moore said that the extended episode would be released on DVD, and it was assumed that it would be on the 2.0 set. Reviewers, and some fans, have already obtained the 2.0 set (which streets on Tuesday, 12/20), but the extended episode wasn’t included. Message boards are filled with fuming fans, but we have good news that should extinguish the flames.
I spoke with a contact at Universal yesterday and asked about the extended episode. I was told that they couldn’t ready the episode in time for the set, but it would be the first episode in the next set (the second half of season 2). This sounds like a great idea since fans will own both versions of the episode, unlike the SG-1 extended episode issue. MGM released the shorter cut of “Threads” in the season 8 set, and fans wishing to obtain the longer version must send in their current disc, or a proof of purchase for the set. It’s more complicated than Universal’s solution.
This is definitely disappointing. While I’m glad there will still be an opportunity to view the extended cut, it sucks we now have to wait another 6 months or so to see it. (Though, on the other hand, when the 2nd Season 2 DVD does show up, it will be a much-needed antidote to Galactica withdrawl syndrome as we wait for Season 3 to begin.)
(Thanks to Justine at All about Tahmoh Penikett for bringing this sad news to our attention.)
With just four days to go until the DVD is officially released, we’re pretty excited about seeing all the Season 2 episodes on DVD. Can’t wait for the 90 minute version of the “Pegasus” episode!
Galactica fans can now signup for free mobile alerts from the SciFi Channel. While the description of this feature is rather bare (”Get the latest SCI FI text updates on your cell phone.”), presumably it will send alerts when new episodes or other BSG-related content air on SciFi.
After entering your cellphone number and network, you can choose to receive alerts for Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, or Ghost Hunters.
I’ve signed up for the service, but I still haven’t received my SMS confirmation code. I’ll let you know how it works out.
Also… I ran across a couple of Battlestar Galactica ringtones, mostly based around the original show’s fanfare theme (which has made a few cameos in the new show). The ringtones come in polyphonic and monophonic versions, and several of them sound pretty decent.
Apple has just announced a deal with NBC/Universal to offer several television shows for sales on the iTunes Music Store. So, you know what that means… Apple’s new iPods can now play episodes of Battlestar Galactica!
Like most other shows on iTMS, episodes are priced at $1.99 each and they’ve got the miniseries, Season 1, and every Season 2 episode that’s been broadcast to date.
At $15.99, the miniseries is a tad overpriced, though. For just four dollars more, you can get the DVD, which includes not only the miniseries but a feature commentary, behind the scenes special, and deleted scenes.
UPDATE: I love this quote from Jeff Zucker (the head of NBC/Universal television) in the New York Times:
“Battlestar Galactica is the most stolen show online there is,” Mr. Zucker said. “Rather than have people steal it, they can pay us to see it.”
I say drool because I think I’m going to have get the new Season 2 DVD!
We all love Battlestar Galactica and I am sure we also have friends and family that love the show too! What better way to celebrate the gift giving season than with a BSG token of love? For your convenience, I have compiled a list of my favorite Galactica treasures.
